Department of Education / Federal Student Aid

PPS has been working in the Department of Education, Federal Student Aid (FSA) for nearly a decade. A brief summary of the work we have done and are doing is as follows:

  • Provide Middleware Operations & Maintenance support for the FSA’s Enterprise IT Infrastructure, supporting 35 commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products across 45 applications.
  • Developed an enterprise capability to capture and persist audit information from public-facing applications, known as the Audit Tracking Framework (ATF).
  • Redesign of the FSA Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) website, incorporating functionalities of the legacy sites into a single web presence with a new look and feel.
  • Complete redesign and reimplementation of FSA’s portal intranet site, known as MyStartingLine.
  • Developed the Build and Deployment Framework (BDF) as a way to automate builds and deployments for portal applications, provide IT environment health monitoring by scanning logs to detect failures before they are detected by the hardware/network infrastructure monitoring.
  • Designed, developed and installed portal architecture, portal application and COTS products for FSA’s website, as well as supported FSA’s process and disaster recovery efforts.
  • Worked closely with FSA to create an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) to provide a flexible and adaptable intercommunications infrastructure for FSA business applications, and promote the use of shared web services and shared data across the enterprise.
  • Built the e-Authentication application within the FSA’s Access and identity Management (AIMS) infrastructure; e-Authentication minimizes the burden on businesses, the public and government when obtaining services online by providing a secure infrastructure for online transactions and eliminating the need for separate processes for identity verification and electronic signatures.
  • Developed FSA’s Security Architecture (SA) custom user interfaces, reusable common web services and self-service portlets; we work closely with FFA business teams and CIO to develop requirements for the integration, design both the registration and COTS configuration details required for integration, implement the requirements, and perform full integration and system testing.

Social Security Administration

As a subcontractor to IBM, PPS was awarded a contract to support Tivoli Access Manager (TAM) at the Social Security Administration (SSA). PPS’s role is to:

  • Provide technical support on the design, development, deployment and problem troubleshooting/resolution of TAM applications – this includes technical assistance, problem resolution and troubleshooting.
  • Support the SSA’s Internet and Intranet initiatives; we provide WebSphere technical support services on the design, development, deployment and problem troubleshooting and resolution of WebSphere applications developed in support of SSA's Internet/Intranet application systems.
  • Provide migration support services for WebSphere as new versions are released; this involves the installation of the environments and the migration of the existing applications required to operate in the new version, along with the testing and deployment of upgrades, patches and efixes to address problems and enhancements.
  • Provide WebSphere performance analysis and tuning support using various WebSphere performance tools in the SSA’s Performance and Capacity Planning Environment to identify performance bottlenecks and recommend improvements for performance and throughput of the applications.

Department of Homeland Security

PPS is a teaming partner of a prominent and successful Department of Homeland Security (DHS) contractor for Enterprise Acquisition Gateway for Leading Edge II (EAGLE II), a Multiple Award Indefinite-Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract that will provide DHS with IT services and solutions. PPS is anxiously awaiting the award of this contract vehicle.
